Most of the IT related costs reside in the Data Center. Focusing on Data Center Efficiency will address the challenge of reducing costs, while maintaining or exceeding the quality of service in parallel with achieving sustainability goals defined with the company. The question is where to start and what to do. The OpenDCME model in combination with the Mansystems BlueIT Portal will answer those questions for you.

The OpenDCME model

The OpenDCME model is the only model that will provide you with a holistic and integrated way of assessing the efficiency of your Data Center. Focusing on 4 different areas, containing 16 KPI’s, the OpenDCME model can be used for starting a baseline measurement on the current situation, with multiple specific recommendations on what to do including out-of-pocket money involved, ROI, complexity (from a technical, organizational and process perspective) and operational risk when executing on the recommendation. As this model has been developed for self improvement it will provide you with a recurring cycle of improvement based on plan, do, check, act. The four areas assessed are:

  • Facilities
  • IT
  • Monitoring (do you measure, what do you measure and how is this used to guideline improvements)
  • Management (what type of processes do you have in place to embed efficiency towards the future)

The OpenDCME model has been recognized by national and international organizations (such as the European Commission) as a standard for national and international covenants, such as for instance the European Code of Conduct for Data Centers.

The Mansystems BlueIT Portal

Based on the OpenDCME model, the Mansystems BlueIT Portal will provide you with an assessment on the efficiency of your data center(s) in an automated fashion. To be used as a means for self improvement the following questions can be easily answered:

  • What are the average KPI scores of my data center(s)
  • How do the current KPI scores relate to the baseline
  • How is my data center performing compared to my peers

The Mansystems Blue IT Portal will provide you with trend analysis on energy consumption and the respective KPI’s over time for self improvement. It will facilitate embedding of guide lines for cost reduction, risk mitigation and sustainability. It will also provide reporting capabilities for different stake holders.
